Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 October 2026
Tally Rooms (“we”, “us”) is a free website where port workers review the Tally Rooms found on ships. This policy explains in plain language what information the site handles and why. It applies to tallyrooms.com.
Who is responsible
The site is run by its owner, the “operator”. You can contact the operator about anything in this policy at the address given below when available.
What we collect
- What you submit. Vessel names, star ratings, your answers about facilities, the approximate size of the room, optional notes, and up to three photos. There are no accounts and no names: reviews are anonymous.
- A protective code. When you submit a review we turn your network (IP) address into a scrambled, one-way code. We use it only to limit how many submissions one connection can send per hour and to fight abuse. We do not store the IP address itself. The code is stored with the submission, is never shown to anyone, is not included in backups, and is deleted automatically after 30 days.
- Visitor counter. The home page shows how many people have used the site. To count each browser once, the site keeps a small marker in your browser’s local storage and sends one anonymous request. Nothing that identifies you is stored with the count.
- Browser memory. We also use local storage to remember that you have already seen the “save to your phone” message, so we do not show it again.
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider processes standard technical data (such as IP address and device type) to deliver the site and keep it secure.
Photos
Photos are resized in your browser before they are sent, which also removes camera information such as GPS location. Please do not upload photos that show people’s faces, documents, or anything that identifies a person. We may remove any photo that does.
What we do not do
- We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number to use the site.
- We do not sell your information.
- We do not show advertising at the moment. If we add ads, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
- We do not set cookies ourselves. Our hosting provider may use strictly necessary security cookies.
Why we use the information
To publish and moderate reviews, to keep the site working and safe, to prevent spam and abuse, and to understand in general terms how much the site is used. Where the law asks for a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interest in running a safe, useful and free service, and on your own action when you choose to submit a review.
Who else handles information
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores the database and photos, and protects the site from attacks. Data may be processed in several countries.
- Resend delivers email notifications to the operator. These emails contain the vessel name, rating and notes of a new submission, never your IP address.
- MET Norway provides the port weather. Our servers ask for it, so your browser does not contact them.
- News publishers. The headlines on the home page link to external sites. Their own policies apply once you open them.
How long we keep it
Reviews and photos stay on the site until we remove them, for example because they are wrong, outdated or break our Terms of Use. The protective code is deleted after 30 days. Backups of the database are kept by the operator and do not include the protective code.
Your rights
Because reviews are anonymous, we usually cannot tell which one is yours. If you want a review or photo removed, tell us which vessel it is about and what it says, and we will remove it when it is reasonable to do so. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask what we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to object to some uses, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Contact us at the address given below when available.
Children
The site is meant for working adults and is not directed to children.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
